    threat of a pandemic

Fortunately its mortality rate is not extremely high. So far only 3 people have officially died. That would be less than 10 % deaths.
However, at the beginning of a viral lung disease it can only be roughly estimated how contagious the virus is, since most of the infected persons are still under treatment.

It is very worrying, however, that hospital staff have also been infected. It is suspected that the coronavirus is so small that it can pass through the usual masks.

The usual craftsman masks are completely unsuitable to protect against a virus. There are special masks for professionals, doctors, nurses, etc. But even these do not offer complete protection ! Especially very small viruses penetrate the tissue. In addition, viruses also penetrate laterally through small gaps.
The epidemic is claiming more and more lives, even with intensive treatment. Officially there are currently 6 dead and 400 infected in China. Western medical experts, however, assume that there are already over 2000 infected persons. A veritable epidemic ! Or, threat of a pandemic !

With this highly infectious lung disease, we must assume that the infections and deaths are 10 times greater than officially stated. Millions of Chinese are on the road for the Chinese New Year. Measuring fever at airports and train stations will not stop the spread.

So far it is unknown when symptoms (fever) will appear. It is also unknown when transmission / infection is possible.
There are many question marks, but these should only worry us when the first proven infections have occurred in Paris, London or Berlin.

threat of a pandemic - 21. January 2020 - 14 nursing staff infected ! Sick people in Thailand, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and in the USA. Incubation period unknown ! Heat detectors and tightened controls at the airports lead to delays.

Probably a variation of the SARS virus. The stock exchanges worldwide react nervously.
The SARS outbreak triggered a stock market crash !

Standard AW: threat of a pandemic .The coronavirus in China is more dangerous than officially admitted, nursing staff is infected ! Masks apparently do not protect !

First of all, the corona virus is not as dangerous and contagious as the flu viruses. In similar corona virus epidemics, SARS and MERS, nearly 1000 people died each. This compares to the hundreds of thousands who die of flu every year.
An influenza pandemic is overdue. If it comes we have to worry !
I am also surprised, in the big slums in Africa, Asia and South America practically no epidemics break out. Apparently the people have become healthier / immune.
As far as the stock market crash is concerned, it is also overdue with the completely inflated share prices!

Is there a greater danger from the mutations of the virus?
The National Health Commission of China is concerned that the new pathogen is even more dangerous.

"We have evidence that the disease is spread through the respiratory system. It is possible that the virus may mutate and become more dangerous," said Commission Vice-President Li Bin in Beijing.

Wuhan is closed ! An unprecedented action !
With the wave of travel now underway, there is a risk that the new corona virus will continue to spread. It is estimated that 400 million Chinese will travel to their home provinces before the Chinese New Year.

In order to prevent a further spread of the virus, the Chinese metropolis of Wuhan, where the virus first broke out, has been sealed off.

According to the city administration, flights, trains, ferries and long-distance buses are to be shut down as of Thursday morning. The inhabitants of Wuhan were instructed not to leave the centre of the Chinese city. Local metro and bus services have also been suspended. About eleven million people live in Wuhan.

In addition, people were instructed to wear protective masks in public. Those who do not wear masks in hotels, restaurants, shopping malls or parks are punished.

The closure of the 11 million metropolis is an unprecedented measure. "This is unique in recent history". According to a spokesperson, the WHO is not aware of a comparable case.

On Thursday afternoon it was also announced that two other megacities have similar restrictions imposed. Together with the inhabitants of the already isolated metropolis of Wuhan, the restrictions therefore apply to almost 20 million people.

So the new virus does not seem to be quite that harmless !
