The women were released from prison in the mid-afternoon of 28 May in response to a court order in their respective cases and had been due to be remanded in custody until further orders.

When it emerged the women were being held in custody on the same day as the trial, the trial judge, Sir J QC, said he had been unable to release the women because of issues about "the risk of serious harm".

Solicitor general G, who argued the men were entitled to a fair trial, welcomed the decision. "We hope this will lead to a new approach, one in which there is a fair and speedy trial for everyone â and one in which each party can get a fair hearing and receive some level of justice."

C, the lead lawyer for the three of the women, said she had been "very proud" of her two children, ages 4 and 13, for leading the charge against a convicted murderer.

"I am so pleased and pleased by this decision. It is my privilege to be a mother of two girls, so I believe you cannot have a fair trial if they are not going to be given all their day in court. I am very pleased with the fact they won't lose the kids and I am happy my kids won't be missing them in that case either," B said.

The two other defendants, both 19, were released on compassionate grounds on 27 May.

R welcomes new speed cameras on deadliest road in Australia

He said the road would be a "priority" after the new system was rolled out on Tuesday morning.

"The speed camera system will be operational on the northbound and southbound Queensland highways during the morning rush hour, but will only be available in major areas during the morning rush hour as part of the rollout," he said.

Mr C thanked Queenslanders for their patience.

Queensland police announced last September that the system would also replace its traffic enforcement system.
